If
you haven't discovered our Congregational Life Facebook page, now may be
the time. Over six weeks in January and February, friends on Facebook contributed
to our discussion "Discovering An Epiphany."
We asked, "How do you share your gifts with those outside the church?" Monica Rosborough of Chalmers-Castle Downs United commented, "One of our gifts is generosity of spirit. I was overwhelmed when I asked the congregation to help a group home for young single moms have a positive Christmas. The congregation responded eagerly and generously, not just with stuff, but with time and prayers. They don't want to just 'give' charity, they want to help build relationships!"
Identifying what you are passionate about is one approach to grounding your vision. When we build on our passions, we have more energy than when we just continue to do what we have always done. What are you passionate about today?
Deborah Rivet of St. Peter's Anglican Church in Duncan responded: "I am passionate about helping people see their 'belovedness'. My experience tells me that people just want to be loved and so many don't see themselves as love-able in the least. 'Who could love me... certainly not God' is too often their cry. As we learn to work more closely with the homeless in our community, I know my parish will grow as they help others grow."
We have always cherished Frederick Buechner's quotation, "The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet." Where do you think the gifts of your congregation meet the deep hunger in your community? The discussion on our Facebook page continues, and we invite you to join us in exploring - more than exploring - having an epiphany, a new insight or a new vision of future possibilities.
