Taking Children's Ministry Seriously

We found a message to parents of young children on a "doodle card" in the pew at Kirk United Church Edmonton. Here are some of the suggestions for parents they include:

  1. Relax! God put the wiggle in children—don’t feel you have to suppress it in God’s house.
  2. Sit toward the front where it is easier to see and hear.
  3. Use a gentle touch; an arm around your child’s shoulder, your hand in his/hers to give reassurance.
  4. Explain the parts of the service quietly.
  5. Bring soft toys, pens, etc. for their use.
  6. Always remember that the way we welcome children in church directly affects the way they respond to church, God and Christ.
